When can I apply for registration ?

The requirements for registration are as follows:

Student Counsellor

Application is to be accompanied by a Letter of Acceptance from the educational institution in which s/he is enrolled, a candidate in training.

Institutional Counsellor

Institutional counsellors are required to work under supervision of a person or department to
whom it must regularly report. Minimum training is a basic qualification in Counselling.
Application for registration as a counsellor under supervision can take place after the first year of training has been successfully achieved and continuation to the second year takes place.

Counsellor

This is a counsellor with a minimum of a 2 year (or equivalent) qualification in Counselling. Such a counsellor may work in either an institutional setting or on her/his own as a General counsellor/practitioner. Application for registration as a counsellor can take place after completion of a degree in Counselling (Level 1 – 3), or Counselling related professional training, has been achieved.

Specialist Counsellor

This is a counsellor with a minimum of an applicable postgraduate (or equivalent) qualification in Counselling. Application for registration as specialist counsellor can take place once a Master’s Degree or Doctorate or PhD in Counselling (Level 1 – 5), or Counselling related professional training, has been achieved.

Counselling Worker

Counselling Worker is defined as “an act or activity practiced by a Counselling worker under the guidance and control of the social worker and as a supporting service to a social worker to achieve the aims of social work”. Minimum training is a basic qualification in Counselling worker

Organizational Membership

The South African Association for Counsellors offers an Organizational Membership option for groups of members from an Institution, Company, Training Centre, Bible School or other entity wishing for consolidated billing.

Become an Associate Member

If you align yourself with our aims and objectives, and want to be our friend and stay in the loop, you may wish to become an Associate Member with our organization.

Affiliated Membership

This is for a Church or Organization belonging and responsible to a wider community such as a denomination or central organization.

Life Coach Membership

Levels 1 to 4 – This is a Life Coach with a minimum of a 1 year (or equivalent) qualification in Life Coaching.

Facilitator / Mentor Membership

Levels 1 to 4 – This is a Facilitator with a minimum of an applicable qualification as a Facilitator. At least 12 months of experience in training facilitation.

Chaplain / Pastor Membership

Levels 1 to 4 – This is a Chaplain / Pastor with a minimum of a 1 year (or equivalent) qualification in Chaplaincy or Pastoral Care.
